I began my career working in network television news. I’ve spent more than 15 years writing and producing news, magazine, short/long-form format, entertainment, talk and documentary programming. Some of my credits include ABC News & News Specials, OWN, The Oprah Winfrey Show, CBS, CNN, VH1, BET, A&E Biography, Good Day New York and PBS. I’ve worked on budgets and developed concepts and program outlines. I’ve written and produced stories, features and profiles on people like Patti LaBelle, Bessie Nickens, a 94-year-old painter, Senator John Kerry, Alicia Keys, Sheryl Crow, and upcoming entrepreneurs, as well as produced stories on finance, fashion, and both Gulf Wars. Some of the most interesting stories I’ve done had a lot less to do with how famous someone was but more about the issues and concerns they faced. Often these stories were about housing, women’s health, employment, crime or lack of services in a community.
I grew up in Marble Hill Projects – hence the name of my website – in the Bronx where I lived most of my life. I worked hard to achieve a lot from getting my first television gig at ABC News Nightline to earning a Master’s Degree at Columbia University School of Journalism while working full-time. Learning about what makes people tick and who they are, why they do the things they do, etc…always made me curious; so storytelling, talking to people, producing and writing stories came naturally. I guess Mrs. Cascione’s high school journalism class paid off!
A fast-paced environment is my friend, although I don’t mind taking a few deep breaths, every now and then. I’m always looking for compelling stories as well as fresh, creative and interesting ways of telling them in all areas of media: broadcast-film-video-web-print.
